Barbara Spencer's Fort Rouge team chalked up a
second straight victory on the Manitoba Curling Tour, winning the
women's division of the STEELTOWN FORD CLASSIC in Selkirk last night
(Oct.3rd).
Spencer (with Chelsea Carey, Kim
Keizer and Barb Enright) followed up her win in the Manitoba Lotteries
Wheat City Classic a week ago by winning five straight games in Selkirk,
earning $2,500. They defeated Connie Shepell of Fort Garry 8-3 in the
women's final. Shepell's team earned $1,000.
Janet Harvey of Fort Rouge and
Allison Nimik of Victoria earned $530 each for reaching the women's
semi-finals (16 teams-four qualifiers).
The men's title in Selkirk went to
the Peter Nicholls foursome from Elmwood. With Kyle Werenich playing
fourth, and Travis Graham and Wayne Sigurdson on the front end, Nicholls
beat Peter Pruden's team from Petersfield (skipped by Dave Boehmer) 10-7
in the final. Nicholls earned $3,000 for the win, while the Pruden
quartet picked up $1,300.
Carl German of East St. Paul and
Wes Jonasson of Arborg received $610 apiece for their semi-final finish
(16 teams-four qualifiers).

The
teams of Dan Kammerlock and Barb Spencer won the men's and women's
titles in the SELKIRK STEELTOWN CLASSIC last night (Oct.4th).
Curling out of Winnipeg's Valour Road Curling Club, Kammerlock (with
Jason Gunnlaugson, Derek Samagalski, and Dan McKenzie) earned $2,500 and
a berth in the MCT Championships in January. Kammerlock defeated Dave
Boehmer of Petersfield ($1,100), who was substituting at skip on
clubmate Peter Pruden's team, 7-6 in the men's division final. Brent
Braemer of Assiniboine-Memorial and Craig Strand of Valour Road ($615
apiece) lost in the semi-finals (14 teams-four qualifiers).
Spencer's Fort Rouge team (with her sister Darcy Robertson, Kim Keizer,
and Barb Enright), also received $2,500 and an MCT berth, topping Liza
Park of Brandon ($1,000) 8-6 by stealing a winning deuce on the 10th
end. Earlier, Spencer cut off an eight-game winning streak in Selkirk
over two years for Joelle Duguid of Fort Rouge, winning a last rock
semi-final decision 6-5. Duguid and Kristy Jenion of St. Vital ($530
each) were the semi-final losers (16 teams-four qualifiers).
